World Homeless Day is on October 10
October 07, 2025
On World Homeless Day, learn how York Region is working to address and prevent homelessness.
Since 2012, World Homeless Day has been observed annually on October 10. This international day aims to raise awareness about the needs of people experiencing homelessness and promote work in local communities to help prevent and end homelessness.
In June 2024, Council approved the 2024 to 2027 Homelessness Service System Plan (HSSP) and Rapid Deployment Actions, guiding the Region’s approach and investments on actions to reduce and prevent homelessness, including creating more emergency, transitional and longer-term housing options.
Rapid Deployment Actions have:
- Increased emergency and transitional housing capacity
- Expanded Outreach Services and extended hours of service until 10pm on weekdays, weekends and statutory holidays
- Expanded supports and services for people experiencing chronic homelessness to find and keep housing
