Newmarket – The Regional Municipality of York is hosting its annual National Public Works Week Family Fun Day open house on Saturday, May 24, 2025, in the Town of East Gwillimbury.

What:
National Public Works Week is celebrated May 18 to May 24, 2025, and is recognized across North America as an opportunity to showcase public works’ services and how they connect and support communities. This year’s theme, ‘People, Purpose, Presence,’ shines a spotlight on the three core values that drive public works professionals to serve their communities every day.
Paramedic Services is also part of the celebrations, as Paramedic Services Week is being celebrated across Canada this week. It is an opportunity to recognize the hard work, dedication and resilience of York Region Paramedics Services and staff who support their efforts behind the front line. This year’s theme is “We care. For everyone.”
Family Fun Day is a free, interactive, family-oriented event to celebrate National Public Works Week and Paramedic Services Week, and promotes public awareness of the many York Region services, including:
- Operating York Region Transit services
- Providing clean and safe drinking water
- Building and maintaining the Regional road network
- Processing solid waste and increasing diversion rates
- Maintaining and protecting the York Regional Forest
- Supporting communities through York Region Paramedic Services
- Increasing road safety through York Region’s Traffic Safety Program
Enjoy displays and activities for the whole family, including facility and fleet tours, a charity barbecue, mascots, hands-on activities and walking and cycling information across York Region.
The Naadowasiin Collective, an Indigenous youth collective as part of the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation, will be opening the event at 10 a.m. with an Honour Song.
