Fifteen years of making Halloween inclusive for kids of all abilities
Richmond Hill - With dark and crowded streets, inaccessible walkways and sensory overload, traditional Halloween activities often overlook the needs of kids and youth with disabilities and developmental needs.
For some children, especially those with sensory or mobility challenges, it can be an overwhelming experience that impacts their enjoyment and ability to participate in Halloween.
Since 2010, Children’s Treatment Network (CTN), in partnership with The Regional Municipality of York and Oak Valley Health’s Markham Stouffville Hospital have worked to make Halloween trick-or-treating a fun and enjoyable experience for all children, with their Inclusive Halloween Event.
CTN and community partners welcome kids and youth with disabilities and developmental needs for inclusive trick-or-treating in a safe, sensory sensitive and accessible environment.
