York Region celebrates National Day of Service and commemorates 9/11
On September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 innocent lives were tragically lost in a series of terrorist attacks. On the 24th anniversary of this heartbreaking day, the sorrow and impact still holds heavy in our hearts.
York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York continue to honour those who lost their lives and offer condolences to everyone who lost loved ones.
In recognition of this day, the National Day of Service was established to remember those impacted by 9/11 and to transform the anniversary of 9/11 from a day of tragedy into a call to encourage acts of kindness, generosity and community spirit.
Today and every day, I invite residents across York Region to reflect on the lives lost and the incredible acts of service that followed. Whether it’s volunteering, helping a neighbour or supporting local, they all serve to better the world we live in.
On behalf of Regional Council and more than 1.29 million people who call our communities home, we remember, honour and thank those who have served and continue to serve our communities.
