Let’s celebrate National Immunization Awareness Week 2025
In line with our commitment to protect and promote residents’ well-being, the Regional Municipality of York recognizes National Immunization Awareness Week from April 21 to 30, 2025. This year’s theme, “Don’t let history repeat itself. Protect your future. Get immunized”, emphasizes the importance of vaccination in safeguarding our community.
Did you know that vaccination is the safest and most effective way to protect you, your families and your community from many serious and potentially deadly diseases? Vaccines work and save 3.5 to 5 million lives every year by preventing more than 30 diseases, including polio, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), flu, measles and cervical cancer.
During National Immunization Awareness Week, don’t let history repeat itself:
- Review and update your child’s immunization records through Immunization Connect Ontario (ICON)
- Ensure your child receives immunizations through our community immunization and in-school clinics, available for students from JK to Grade 12
- York Region students in Grades 7 to 12 can also receive immunizations against Hepatitis B, Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and Meningococcal disease offered at our in-school clinics
- Get back on track if you are pregnant with recommended vaccines, such as the Tdap vaccine, which prevents pertussis (whooping cough) for both you and your newborn baby
- Ensure your child receives immunizations through our community immunization and in-school clinics, available for students from JK to Grade 12. Appointments are released weekly, with more openings coming in mid-June
- Keep your family’s immunizations organized with mobile apps or by storing yellow immunization booklets with passports
- Check immunization through the lifespan to see if you or your family members have missed any routine immunizations over the past few years. Remember – adults need vaccines too!
- If you or your child are overdue for immunizations, book an appointment with your primary healthcare provider or visit a walk-in clinic and get immunized
Protect your future and get immunized today!
