Notice of Construction Lloydtown – Aurora Road from Highway 27 to Jane Street

Transportation improvements prepare York Region to meet the needs of motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and transit users today and into the future. York Region is making road improvements on Lloydtown – Aurora Road from Highway 27 to Jane Street.

Duration: May 2025 to November 2025

Description: 

  • Removing and replacing asphalt road surface
    • Traces of asbestos are present in the current asphalt on Lloydtown – Aurora Road
    • Asbestos was used in asphalt mixes throughout the 1970s and early 1980s to improve performance
    • The risk of exposure to asbestos for workers and bystanders is low
    • As a precaution, York Region’s contractor will take protective measures during removal of existing asphalt containing traces of asbestos
  • Replacing driveway and road crossing culverts
  • Cleaning of roadside ditches to ensure water flows freely
  • Replacing steel beam guide rails that provide a barrier between the roadway and potentially hazardous situations to ensure they meet current standards while increasing safety for road users

Impacts to travellers: 

The road will remain open to local traffic; however, there will be sections of the road closed temporarily along with periodic lane closures, as required.

Temporary local road and lane closures:

  • Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. periodic lane closures
  • Access to homes and businesses will be maintained
  • Sections of the road will be temporarily closed on four Saturdays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. to replace culverts that allow water to run freely under the road
  • Advance notice will be provided regarding temporary road closures

As with all road construction projects, work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions. York Region will provide advance notice where possible.
