Celebrating the essential contributions of public works professionals
On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, I am proud to recognize May 18 to 24, 2025, as National Public Works Week.
This year’s theme, People, Purpose, Presence, speaks to the heart of what drives our public works professionals – a commitment to service, a dedication to community and a presence that ensures the safety, reliability and sustainability of the services we depend on each day.
Across York Region, public works professionals are at the core of keeping our communities moving and thriving. From maintaining our roads and bridges, delivering reliable transit services, providing clean and safe drinking water, advancing environmental stewardship and ensuring rapid response in emergencies, these individuals perform essential work, often behind the scenes, but always in service to the public good.
Their work touches every resident, every day. It reflects an unwavering dedication to build and maintain the critical infrastructure that shapes the health, safety and quality of life in York Region. Through their presence, expertise, resilience and pride in their work, we support our growing communities and meet the needs of today while planning for tomorrow.
As part of our celebrations, York Region is pleased to host a Family Fun Day on Saturday, May 24, 2025 – an opportunity for families to meet our public works teams, learn about the essential services they provide and explore the many ways public works supports our daily lives.
As we celebrate National Public Works Week, we extend our heartfelt thanks to York Region Public Works staff and all those who contribute to building strong, sustainable communities. Your dedication ensures York Region remains a welcoming and resilient place to live, work and thrive.
