Notice of Construction - Henderson Sewage Pumping Station

In July 2019, the Regional Municipality of York completed a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) Study to determine the preferred approach for redirecting wastewater from the Henderson Drive area in the Town of Aurora.

The outcome of the study is the construction of the new Henderson Sewage Pumping Station, which will be located southeast of the rail line at Yonge Street and Industrial Parkway South.

The next phase of the project is to prepare the site for the new sewage pumping station, which requires removing trees located in the interior of the lot. An arborist reviewed and selected non-native and dead trees to be removed. Tree removal is scheduled to proceed outside of the general spring bird nesting season. York Region staff, arborists and forestry experts will be on-site monitoring the removal process.

When the construction of the Henderson Sewage Pumping Station is complete, trees native to the area, including sugar maple, white pine and cedar, will be planted on the site.

When: Site preparation is from March to May, 2021. Construction of the pumping station will begin in the summer.

What can you expect?

  • The tree removal work will be limited to the interior area of the new Henderson Sewage Pumping Station lot
  • There may be an increase in construction-related traffic in and out of the site and on Yonge Street
  • There is no impact to your water or wastewater services
