Scheduled Chemical Tank Cleaning – Newmarket Sewage Pumping Station
Project update:
Work will occur on Monday, September 29 at 8 a.m. with return to service by end-of-day Tuesday, September 30.
Updated Wednesday, September 17, 2025
On September 29, 2025, the chemical tank at the Newmarket Sewage Pumping Station at 360 Bayview Parkway in the Town of Newmarket will be turned off for routine cleaning. There will be no disruption to water or wastewater services.
The tank contains safe, effective chemicals used to reduce sanitary sewer odour. As a result of the tank being turned off, residents and businesses may notice a slight odour between September 29 and October 1, 2025, coming from the sanitary maintenance hole at Yonge Street and North Lake Road in the City of Richmond Hill.
To help minimize odour, York Region will increase the hydrogen peroxide dosage at the Aurora Sewage Pumping Station during the cleaning. This is a safe and effective way to reduce odour in sewage and wastewater. This treatment will not impact services or residents.
