York Region extends the Community Housing Supply Grant Program with up to $14.5 million in funding available in 2025
York Region is now accepting applications to the Community Housing Supply Grant Program from non-profit and cooperative housing organizations who are ready to build new affordable housing units. All applications must be received by Friday, July 18, 2025.
The Region will consider funding for:
- New construction
- Conversion of non-residential buildings to community housing
- Additions or extensions to an existing community housing building
- Community housing redevelopment resulting in an increased supply of units
As housing affordability challenges continue to impact residents, York Region is committed to exploring innovative, locally driven solutions to provide new homes to households in need. Part of this commitment includes continued investment in the Community Housing Supply Grant Program to provide capital funding to community partners to support the construction of affordable housing.
Following a successful pilot in 2023, financial support for the Community Housing Supply Grant Program was extended with up to $14.5 million in funding made available in 2025.
Projects must have a minimum of 10 affordable units that will remain affordable over 20 years. Successful projects must begin construction within 120 days of signing an agreement with the Region.
Increasing affordable housing choices, measured through an increase in the number of community housing units, is a key objective in the Region’s 2023 to 2027 Strategic Plan: From Vision to Results. To date, nearly $10.2 million in funding was awarded through the Community Housing Supply Grant Pilot to support the construction of 100 units, of which more than a third will be affordable units.
