York Region maintains excellence in drinking water quality with 100% compliance scores
Newmarket – The Regional Municipality of York is reporting its 2025 Drinking Water Systems Performance Report, highlighting continued high compliance scores of 100% in Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks drinking water systems.
“Safe drinking water is the foundation of healthy communities. York Region’s vigorous oversight focuses on continuous improvement of our systems, financial sustainability and asset management to ensure we can meet both current and future demand,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Eric Jolliffe. “This year's achievement reflects our continued disciplined operations and transparency, giving residents confidence in the safe, high‑quality drinking water delivered across York Region.”
2025 highlights include:
- All inspections completed by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks received 100% compliance scores
- Drinking water quality test results complied with the Safe Drinking Water Act, 2002
- Three multi-site external audits in 2025 led to successful re-accreditation to the Ministry’s Drinking Water Quality Management Standard and to ISO 14001 and ISO 9001, with zero non-conformities identified
- Risk mitigation included quarterly operational risk reviews, emergency exercises and a March 2026 annual management review covering system and regulatory performance, audit results, legal changes, customer feedback and operational risks
“Through a systems‑based approach bringing together quality management, environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance, York Region continues to strengthen how drinking water systems are monitored and improved,” said City of Richmond Hill Mayor, David West, Chair of Public Works - Environmental Services. “The strong results seen in 2025 reflect the professionalism of staff, collaboration across municipalities and an ongoing commitment to learning and adapting as standards and conditions evolve.”
