York Region welcomes Paulo Da Silva as Chief-Designate of York Regional Police
On behalf of York Regional Council and the 1.3 million residents we serve, I am pleased to extend my sincere congratulations to Chief-Designate Paulo Da Silva on his appointment as Chief of Police of York Regional Police, effective June 27, 2026.
With more than three decades of policing experience, including leadership of the Community Safety Branch, Chief-Designate Da Silva brings a strong track record of service, innovation and collaboration. His commitment to community-focused policing, strengthening public trust and advancing modern approaches to safety will serve York Region well as our communities continue to grow and evolve.
Regional Council values the strong partnership we have built with York Regional Police. Together, we have made meaningful progress in enhancing community safety and well-being through collaboration with municipalities, community organizations and public sector partners. I am confident under Chief-Designate Da Silva’s leadership, we will continue to build on this momentum, working together to address complex challenges such as community safety, mental health and the needs of a diverse and growing population.
I also extend our sincere thanks to outgoing Chief Jim MacSween for his years of dedicated service to York Region. His leadership has helped shape a strong, modern police service and has contributed significantly to the safety and well-being of our communities.
We look forward to working closely with Chief-Designate Da Silva and all members of York Regional Police to serve and protect our communities.
