York Region Launches First-Ever Welcoming Week Celebration
From September 12 to 21, 2025, York Region is proud to host its first-ever Welcoming Week marking a celebration of the diversity and contributions of newcomers and immigrants in our communities. This milestone event supports A Place to Thrive: York Region’s 2024–2027 Plan for Newcomer Inclusion which aims to build a region where everyone feels they belong.
Throughout the week, municipalities, libraries, community organizations, and other partners will host events that showcase newcomer stories, promote cultural exchange, and foster inclusive connections. York Region has coordinated a Welcoming Week webpage to share events happening across all nine local municipalities to make it easy for residents to participate.
Welcoming Week highlights York Region’s commitment to:
- Promoting inclusive and welcoming communities
- Recognizing the social and economic contributions of newcomers
- Strengthening partnerships across sectors to support newcomer success
You can take part in Welcoming Week by:
- Attending events with friends, family, and community members
- Sharing the news within your networks
- Posting and resharing content on social media using #YRWelcomingWeek2025
