Emergency Preparedness Week: Building a Safer York Region
Emergency Preparedness Week runs from May 3 to 9 and is an important opportunity to learn how to prepare for emergencies and understand the top risks facing York Region. While we can’t control when emergencies or natural disasters will happen, there are many steps we can take to be prepared and help keep our families and loved ones safe.
York Region can experience a range of emergencies, including severe weather, flooding, ice storms, cyber incidents and more. Planning ahead can reduce impacts and protect communities.
Get Prepared and Stay Informed
York Region’s online Emergency Preparedness Guide is filled with information and simple steps you can take before, during and after an emergency. It offers tips on creating an emergency kit, making a family emergency plan and how to recover after an emergency. During Emergency Preparedness Week, residents are encouraged to:
- Review and practice your family emergency plan, including meeting places for children, pets or family members with special needs
- Build or refresh your emergency kit
- Learn how to stay informed and connected during an emergency
