Celebrate National Public Works Week at Family Fun Day
National Public Works Week takes place from May 18 to 24, 2026 across North America and recognizes the essential services that keep communities safe, healthy and connected.
This year’s theme, “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community”, celebrates the strong foundation that public works provide in our everyday lives. York Region Public Works has long driven the innovations that help our communities grow into places where people can live, work and thrive.
Celebrate National Public Works Week at the Family Fun Day open house event on Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 80 and 90 Bales East in the Town of East Gwillimbury. Families and residents are invited to the Public Works Operations Centre and Paramedic Services Headquarters, with a full day of free, hands-on activities, including:
- An opening ceremony by The Chippewas of Georgina Island, starting at 10:30 a.m.
- Interactive displays on roads, transit, water treatment, recycling, emergency preparedness, health services and forest conservation
- Public Works trucks and equipment
- Photos with our mascots
- Children’s activities, including face painting and a balloon artist
- Paint‑a‑Plow blade showcase, where you can vote for your favourite school design
- A barbecue lunch hosted by the Holland Landing Lions Club, available for purchase for $5
Parking is available for event attendees at the following locations:
- East Gwillimbury Household Hazardous Waste and Recycling Depot, 225 Garfield Wright Boulevard, Town of East Gwillimbury
- Along 80 Bales Drive East and 90 Bales Drive East, Town of East Gwillimbury
A York Region Transit bus shuttle will operate throughout the day, providing transportation between all parking locations and the event site.
Family Fun Day is a unique opportunity to meet the people behind the scenes and learn how Public Works services support daily life across York Region.
