Honouring those who care for and protect our communities
On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, I am proud to recognize Friday, May 1, 2026, as National Physicians and First Responders Day.
Today, we honour the dedicated professionals who stand at the front lines of care and safety in our communities. Our physicians and first responders, including paramedics, police officers, firefighters, nurses, doctors, dispatchers, military personnel and all emergency responders, serve with unwavering commitment, often in moments of urgency, uncertainty and need.
Across York Region, their expertise, courage and compassion make a meaningful difference every day. Whether responding to emergencies, providing critical care or offering reassurance in difficult moments, their work strengthens the health, safety and resilience of our communities.
We also pause to remember and honour those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others. Their legacy is one of profound bravery and selflessness.
This work is more than a profession. It is a calling rooted in service, integrity and care for others. On behalf of the more than 1.3 million residents who call York Region home, we extend our deepest gratitude for all that you do to keep our communities safe, healthy and supported.
Thank you for being there when it matters most.
