King Road and Keele Street Improvements
King Road and Keele Street | Township of King
Construction start: Late Summer 2024
Anticipated completion: Winter 2026
York Region is rehabilitating bridges and improving King Road and Keele Street
King Road:
- Rehabilitation of the bridge west of Keele Street is complete
- All lanes of King Road, including sidewalks, are now open
Keele Street:
- Rehabilitating the bridge north of King Road continues and is expected to be complete in December 2026
- Water proofing, paving and line painting on the centre portion of the bridge is scheduled for the weekend of Friday, April 24, 2026
- Lane shifts to occur Monday, April 27, 2026 as the third stage of construction commences
- Further improvements and pavement restoration at Keele Street and King Road will follow the completion of the bridge work
- Installation of northbound left turn lanes at King Road and a pedestrian signal south of King Road are complete
- Northbound left turn lanes at King Road and a new pedestrian signal south of King Road have been installed on Keele Street as well as new parking restrictions applied
Impacts to Travellers
- Keele Street is reduced to one lane in each direction for the duration of construction; however, traffic lanes will shift to the east side on the evening of Monday, April 27, 2026 as crews complete work on different sections of the bridge
- The sidewalk on the west side of Keele Street will be closed, pedestrians will be directed to use the east sidewalk
- Trucks are not permitted to turn left or right onto King Road from Keele Street or left onto Keele Street when travelling eastbound on King Road for the duration of construction
- There are no turning restrictions for passenger vehicles
Project Timeline
King Road bridge work is complete. Construction on the Keele Street bridge and intersection of King Road and Keele Street is expected to be complete by the end of 2026.
