About the 62 Bayview Parkway Community Housing Project
The proposed building will have up to 250 units with both affordable and market rents. The design will honour the history of the original building and include indoor and outdoor amenities.
The final design will be shaped through by input from community members. By working with the Town of Newmarket and engaging neighbours, aim to create an inclusive and welcoming community.
Planning Approval Status
The proposed redevelopment at 62 Bayview Parkway requires an Official Plan and Zoning Bylaw Amendment, as well as Site Plan Approval from the Town of Newmarket before construction can begin. York Region is working through the Town’s preapplication process and made a second submission in December 2024. The planning application process will continue into 2025.

The redevelopment of 62 Bayview Parkway will help to address York Region’s significant need for new affordable housing. The Region is proposing up to 250 units on this site with a range of rental options that include affordable and market rents. The planning and design components of the new building are in progress. The site will include parking and indoor and outdoor amenity space in addition to the residential apartments.
What are the project timelines?
Here is a look at the ongoing project timeline:
- 2023 to 2025 - Planning Applications: Submit planning applications and get approvals from the Town of Newmarket.
- 2025 to 2026 - Detailed Design: Obtain building permits and select builder
- 2026 to 2028 - Construction
- 2029 Occupancy: New residents move in

Subsidized housing
For information on subsidized housing in York Region, including eligibility and how to apply, visit york.ca/Housing or call Access York at 1-877-464-9675. New applicants should know that the demand for subsidized housing in York Region is high and wait times are long. If you are not on the subsidized housing wait list already, it is unlikely you will be offered a unit in this building when it opens.
Market rate units
HYI market rate unit vacancies will be filled on a first-come, first served-basis. There is no wait list. Information on future market rent units, including rent and move-in dates, will be available closer to the end of construction. For more details, visit york.ca/MarketRentHYI .
