Notice of compound construction on Wallace Street
York Region is building a new 11-kilometre gravity sewer pipe along Rutherford Road, Highway 27, Highway 7, Islington Avenue and Steeles Avenue West in the City of Vaughan to provide sustainable wastewater servicing and accommodate future growth in the west Vaughan communities.

Project Duration
- Fall 2024 to fall 2029
- Working hours are Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; overnight and weekend work will happen as needed
Description
- The sewer pipe will be installed by tunnelling, requiring construction of the compound on Wallace Street in April
- Compounds are enclosed temporary work areas, where tunnel boring machines are launched or received; they are enclosed to limit disturbances, noise, dust and most work will occur underground
Impacts
- Access to all homes will be maintained
- There are no planned impacts to water or wastewater services
- Due to the nature of work, there will be additional construction vehicles in the area; there may be periodic delays due to the movement of construction vehicles
- Construction hoarding will be installed around to the work area to limit any disturbances
As with all construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather or other conditions. York Region will provide advance notice where possible. We understand construction is disruptive; thank you for your patience while we complete this vital work. If you have any questions or concerns, staff will be pleased to respond.
