Drinking water without a second thought
You’re standing at the York Region booth at a local community event when you hear the person next to you ask: “Is our tap water safe to drink?”
It’s a simple question.
One you almost dismiss without thinking.
Because at home, it’s never really something you think about.
You turn on the tap.
Fill a glass.
Drink.
It’s automatic.
Something you’ve done countless times without stopping to think about it.
But hearing it out loud makes you pause.
What if it wasn’t that simple? Or readily available?
Picture it for a moment.
How different that would feel.
How something so routine would suddenly require attention or effort.
And just as quickly, you realize how much trust is built into what you do every day.
Most people don’t think about what it takes to make that possible.
More than 325 million litres of water are treated and delivered every day in York Region. In some cases, it travels more than 80 kilometres through a network of pipes before it reaches your home. It’s continuously monitored, tested and maintained to ensure it stays clean, safe and reliable.
Most of that work isn’t visible.
You don’t often think about the distance it travels.
Or the scale of what it takes to deliver it.
Or the systems working behind the scenes to keep it safe.
You just turn on the tap.
And it’s there.
Clean.
Safe.
Reliable.
You don’t see that work.
You just experience the result.
Water you can rely on.
