This fall, layer up to stay protected from illness!
As respiratory season begins, everyone faces an increased risk of getting colds, the flu (influenza) and other respiratory illnesses such as COVID-19 and RSV (respiratory syncytial virus). While these infections can affect anyone, older adults, young children, people with compromised immune systems, people with disabilities and pregnant individuals are at a higher risk of severe illnesses and complications.
Everyone has a role to play in reducing the spread of viruses this fall!
Get vaccinated!
Your best defense against respiratory viruses is to get vaccinated as soon as you’re eligible.
Flu, COVID-19 and RSV vaccines are available now for high-risk groups. Beginning on October 27, 2025, COVID-19 and flu vaccines will be available for the public. You can get vaccinated at:
- Participating pharmacies (check for age and eligibility requirements for certain vaccines)
- A health care provider or a walk-in medical clinic

Layer up!
Layering your protection helps keep you, your families and your community safe this fall and winter. Here’s how you can “layer up”:
- Stay current and up-to-date with a COVID-19 and flu vaccine (and RSV vaccine if you are eligible)
- Stay at home when you are sick
- Wash your hands often
- Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze
- Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces regularly
- Consider wearing a tight-fitting, well-constructed mask in crowded indoor spaces, especially if you or people you live with are at higher risk
